Tapeswitch^® Sensing Edges

Tapeswitch sensing edges are pressure-sensitive devices which are designed to protect personnel and equipment in a variety of environments.

The construction of a Tapeswitch sensing edge is based on a continuous length of Tapeswitch pressure-sensitive ribbon switch encased in a durable housing material which can be fitted into a choice of channel.

Sensing edges are typically mounted on the leading edge of a moving object such that the sensor is activated when it meets an obstruction. As the sensing edge deforms, a stop signal is initiated and the sensing edge then acts as a 'cushion' to allow the moving parts to come to rest without exerting excessive force on the obstruction. The depth of this 'cushion' is known as the overtravel of the sensing edge.

Tapeswitch sensing edges are custom-made to order and are available in a wide range of different profiles and sensitivities to suit the demands of your application.

Solo Sensing Edge Range

The Solo Sensing edges manufactured by Tapeswitch are based on the same principle as the existing range of highly successful Tapeswitch Sensing Edges.  However, the major difference between the Solo Sensing Edges and any other edge is that the Solo Sensing Edge has a Category 3 fail-safe monitoring function built into the edge.  By providing two volt-free outputs this configuration is ideal for use with AS-Interface systems.

Control Unit Options

All Tapeswitch sensing edges can be manufactured as fail-safe or non-safety versions. The fail-safe versions can be 4-wire configuration, for use with the PRSU/4 control unit, or 2-wire with End-of-Line resistor, for use with the PSSR/2. When used with these control units the system meets PLd of EN3849-1. An additional control unit is not required for the Solo product range. The non-safety version acts as a 2-wire normally –open switch.
